It’s a girl!

It’s been a while since I’ve updated the website, I apologize for the delay.  Rob was in a car accident on Veteran’s Day, and hasn’t been back to work since then, so I’ve been very busy helping him get better, and keeping up with my other responsibilities.  We are now 21 weeks pregnant, and for those of you that don’t know already, we’re having a girl!  We’ve named her Kadence, but haven’t settled on a middle name yet.  At our appointment yesterday, she was looking very good, and currently weighs in at about 1 lb.  We did receive some disappointing news 2 weeks ago, my cervix had started to shorten like it did last pregnancy.  So last week they had me in to check and see how it was doing and I had lost a centimeter in less than a week.  Since your cervix during pregnancy is supposed to be 3 centimeters, losing a centimeter was definitely not a good thing, especially since it happened so fast.  I was also having some mild contractions and the doctor was afraid that my cervix wasn’t going to hold, and felt that I would deliver the baby in days if we didn’t do something about it.  So, on Tuesday I went in for an emergency cerclage.  A cerclage means that they have sewn my cervix shut, to help prevent it from shortening any more.  They ended up doing a double cerclage because he felt that one stitch just wasn’t enough.  After one week, my cervix is holding strong.  The contractions haven’t stopped, but they have put me on some medicine to keep them from being too strong.  If we can keep my contractions to a minimum, they are hoping the cerclage will keep the baby in until it’s safer for her to be born.  I’m on bed rest for what will likely be the remainder of the pregnancy, checking in once a week with the doctor to see how things are progressing.  We will update you as often as we can.  Please keep Kadence in your prayers!   Damian was a miracle, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that we can have one more!  🙂
